Maternal Malnutrition and Its Kick on Child Growth: An Alarming Trim for Pakistan

Malnutrition is one of the least-talked debate in Pakistan although it has the most cripple impact on poverty and quality of life. Malnutrition encompasses strings of over and under nutrition and is culpable for morbidity and mortality worldwide. In developing countries such as India, Bangladesh and Pakistan one child out of three children affected by malnutrition. Malnutrition in infants is the product of maternal malnutrition in Pakistan. Micro-nutrient deficiencies, poverty, illiteracy are inaugural causes of malnutrition in pregnant females in Pakistan. Maternal malnutrition has pronounced and serious effects on its child growth. This paper highlights the causes of maternal malnutrition its outcomes on their infants, micronutrient deficiencies, strategies to overcome micronutrient deficiencies and initiatives taken by Pakistan Government to combat maternal malnutrition.
